A Positive Spin From The Madonna Dilemma

As you all know, I’ve been on the pro side of the Madonna adoption, partially because I think that I’ve stayed away from a lot of the gory back and forth accusations and partially because I’m a fan of Madonna in the first place. And a huge fan of her parenting, mixing and blending family members to the benefit of her children.

But this story has had a personal effect on me. And on my family, as far as my mom and my sister are concerned. People have been pretty closed mouthed when it has come around to Becken’s adoption. I have mentioned in an earlier post that I have been surprised at the small amount of reaction that we have gotten in public, which we dreaded at home while filling out the adoption applications. Of course, my inner circle of friends and family know the details, yet every stranger or acquaintance seemed to just take it in stride.

Until now. Since the media focus on the Madonna and David adoption has been in the forefront, I’ve had strangers come up to me and ask me about the “Madonna situation”. These people range from clients to daycare parents to service workers and ultimately the grocery store people who I expected to ask me in the first place.

So, in an unexpected, round about way Madonna has helped me to be able to tell my view about her adoption of David, and my view on adoption in general, in a nonpersonal, non confrontational way. Of course, I bring out my experience, as that is the only thing that I can refer to. I hadn’t really thought about the frequency that it was happening until it even happened at a family party. And that my opinion was viewed not as gossip only, but as an opinion that was tried was a big plus as well.
