Advice From Elder Wisdom Circle

Starting when I was a young teenager, I would always read Dear Abby in our daily newspaper. I was always surprized at her answers because I would most likely think one way, but she would come up with better ones. I think that I had the typical black and white, right or wrong, thinking of a typical teenager, so seeing that there were other options, better options was a great experience for me.

In our newspaper now they offer a couple of different advice columns that I don’t enjoy much at all. I wish for the olden days of Dear Abby and her simpler questions that she had to tackle. I guess this means that I’m getting old.

I came across another advice option from an article in Guideposts magazine. It is called the Elder Wisdom Circle and it features advice from a group of elders who volunteer for this chance to give out wisdom. Kind of like a group of grandparents, just waiting to pass around their live’s experience.

When I checked out their site, I was amazed at the range of topics that they have answered. For example, here is some advice given by Helen to a divorcee:

I understand that because Mom and Dad had a “till death do us part” commitment to each other, you assumed your life would be the same way. You know now that is not the case. In this day and age, women are independent. You don’t have to be Mrs. anybody to be your own person. You deserve the best that life has to offer but it’s up to you to get it. You don’t rely on anyone else to do it for you. You don’t need to be in a 50-50 relationship. You want to be 100%. You have a good twenty years before you’ll be eligible to retire. Get into the game of life and be your own person. The journey will be very exciting and rewarding.

I didn’t find any direct advice about fertility and such, but there is a link where you can ask for advice. I’d like to see what they have to say about the now common fertility problems that we are experiencing on the whole.
