Baby Congrats to Katey Sagal

I was never a fan of "Married With Children" although Chris said that he was. I suppose that kind of humor isn't something that I'm that in tune to, but I've always loved Katey Sagal. Only knowing her through MWC, I wasn't too involved with her career, but beginning with her very public miscarriage history, I became a fan of her.

According to www.usatoday.com Katey and her husband, Kurt Sutter had a baby girl that they named Esme on Wednesday January 10th, 2007. The couple used a surrogate for this baby who joins Katey's two older children from a previous marriage.

Although this article reveals in the headline that the couple used a surrogate for their daughter, the original article that Chris pointed out to me, did not. I was surprised that Katey was able to have another child due to her age of 49. After reading through the article to the end, it was revealed that the couple had used a surrogate. I felt both happy and intrigued that the fact wasn't up front. Happy because that it really isn't any of my business if they used a surrogate or not. And then thoughtful because I wonder if people are more vocal about using infertility solutions, then those of us who use them might not feel so alone.

I checked out www.surromomsonline.com for a definition of surrogacy. Here is what Jenn Z. had to write:

A surrogate mother is a woman who carries a child for someone else, usually an infertile couple. There are two different types of surrogacy. They are traditional surrogacy and gestational surrogacy.

The above site also offers an up to date list of articles regarding surrogacy, and links to other articles that they don't list on their page. Until I had some time to read through the list, I had no idea how many stories of surrogacy there are. I'm excited to dig in a little more to learn about this process.
