Blue Bedsheets = Babies?

The title of the book, Do Blue Bedsheets Bring Babies? by Thomas Craughwell is the reason why I got the book in the first place. Is there a fertility corrolation between sheet color and if a baby arrives 9 months later? Reading this subtitle, I automatically thought, "No way!" Let's see what the author has to say.

Craughwell rated this old wives tale right in the middle between true and false. Meaning, that the tale could be true or false fifty percent of the time. Using color therapy research from marketing research firms was the basis for Craughwell's research. Color therapy is widely used in advertising, marketing and purchasing of many products including food, cleaners and linens. They also brought up research from WSU (Go Cougs!) that patients in green rooms or in rooms with green accents healed faster than patients in other colored rooms. The infamous study by Dr. Alexander Schauss involving inmates and the color pink was also cited.

Dr. Alexander Schauss, director of the American Institute for Biosocial Research in Tacoma, Washington, discovered that this shade of pink has a positive effect on angry and violent prisoners. "It's a tranquilizing color," Dr. Schauss said.
But what is it about blue bedsheets?

Some Mexican folk tales tell of success in fertilization if the married couple uses blue sheets on their wedding night.

Color researchers have found that blue can decrease the heart rate and have a calming effect. And a bridegroom who is calm and confident rather than tense and over-eager is likely to perform better.

Regardless of the factual basis for this old-wives tale, I started thinking while I was reading the article that this old-wives tale would make for a very interesting and humorous wedding gift for any upcoming summer weddings. But only if the couple is wanting kids, of course.
