Over on Adrienne's blog, she reviews a book called The Family Book by Todd Parr. Although I haven't read it, it caught my eye, because it looks a lot like one of our family favorite books here at home, called, It's Okay to Be Different also by Todd Parr.
This book is one of my favorites because Chris picked it up and bought it for the kids before there even were kid(s). He was at Costco one day and saw it and brought it home. It sounds like our family philosophy but when I saw one of the pages that reads "It's okay to be adopted" my heart soared. Typically male, yes, I know this is sexist of me to say, Chris was very closed mouthed about our adoption of Becken. During the wait I wondered if he really got what was going on. But once in a while he would surprise me and show me that in that silent world of his, adoption and Becken did exist.
The author's website is www.toddparr.com
Here is the best part of his bio
like the fog.
I like sea lions.
I like to paint.
My favorite color is Blue.
My favorite food is macaroni and cheese.
You can also see examples of his art and other books of his on his website. He also provides fun activities for kids about creating their own books and files for coloring sheets of pages of his books. There are also links for teachers to incorporate his books into their curriculum
Ivy loves the drawings and the simple words. Bec loves to chew on the book board. Chris loves the philosophy. And I love the last page, which reads,
"It's okay to be different. You are special and Important just because of being who you are. Love, Todd"
