WORRIED about mercury? PCBs? Dioxin? Cadmium? I sure am.
Of course, I just wrote a column on why fish oils are so good for you, especially if you are trying to conceive. But this begs the question: our seas as so polluted, how can we get pure fish oil?
Okay, so here’s a compilation of some Mercury, dioxin and PCB safe brands of fish oil. They’ve come a long way from fish oils of old–some of the flavored ones are pretty decent. Plus, some some in capsules–if you hate glugging oil. Again, this list is for YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. I am not a health professional, I make no guarantees, nor am I RECOMMENDING you take any of these products without consulting a professional first.
Some things to keep in mind:
Rancid = bad. I’d stay away from the Garden of Life brand because it has been known to spoil (storage problems?)
Check with doctor/nutritionist: these oils DO act as a blood thinner (hence their favorable cardiovascular capabilities), which could interfere with bloodthinning drugs or if you’re going to have surgery. Also, if you take too much, it could cause bruising and other problems (like diarrhea).
If you have allergies, watch out for lecithin (soy) and some vitamin Es have soy. Non-soy formulas will have rosemary as a preservative. Coromega contains EGG yolk.
