I have never been particularly fond of Tom Cruise, although I do like some of his movies. I have always liked Nicole Kidman. So, of course I was on "her side" when they split, but that is neither here nor there.

As many of you likely know, Tom and Nicole adopted a couple of kids together. While I do not believe they ever made a big deal about it publicly, speculation has always been that they were infertile together. However, Tom got Katie Holmes pregnant, and now Nicole is pregnant by her husband, Keith Urban. According to the article in Women's Day, Nicole conceived after months of fertility treatments.

I find it interesting when a couple is unable to conceive a baby together but both are able to conceive with other partners. It makes me wonder what combination of factors prevented one couple from conceiving when both were able to do so with other partners. (Admittedly, in this case, it sounds like fertility treatments were needed, so luck or fate might have more to do with it than anything.)

I have often wondered how Nicole felt when Tom got Katie pregnant. I would not have handled that well at all. The thought of my husband divorcing me (regardless of who chose the divorce and why) and then getting another woman pregnant would be a huge blow to me. Rumors are that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston also struggled with infertility together, so I would imagine that Jennifer went through a similar struggle upon learning that Brad got Angelina Jolie pregnant.

I can only imagine what a mess I would be if that situation were to happen to me, and I would not have to do it with the paparazzi following me around and people all over the world reading about it. How humbling that even the very rich and beautiful cannot "buy" their way out of the same issues that face the common folk like us. It does make me sad for them, though, because I know how painful infertility is. It is one aspect of life that you cannot control, no matter who you are or how much money you have.
