When I was taking the hormone Clomid, I struggled with hot flashes. I had heard about hot flashes from menopausal women, but I really did not understand what one was until I had one.
When I learned that hot flashes were a potential side effect, I was relieved that none happened while I was taking the Clomid. The hot flashes started about a week after I stopped taking the drug. Out of nowhere, I would suddenly feel very, very hot. I would start sweating, and I felt like the cartoon character that gets hot and has steam blowing out of his ears. Then, just as quickly, the hot flash would end, and I would be back to normal.
Hot flashes were particularly strange when I was cold. I have always been rather cold natured, so I keep a sweater with me whenever I go out to a restaurant during the summer. I would be very cold from the air conditioning and then, out of nowhere, I would be incredibly hot for about a minute. Then, I would suddenly be cold again. I am sure it was comical to watch me taking my sweater on and off during a meal as my forehead beaded with sweat.
One day, I was talking about the side effects with coworkers when a hot flash started. I asked my coworkers to watch and tell me what it looked like to them. They said that my cheeks flushed red and that I basically looked like any woman going through menopause, only younger. :0) I felt like a walking toaster.
I was surprised when hot flashes lasted past one cycle of Clomid. I assumed that I would be safe from hot flashes after I stopped taking the hormone. It actually took a few extra weeks for the hot flashes to stop happening, although they did occur with less frequency.
I do not have any advice for dealing with hot flashes other than you just have to ride them out. They are harmless other than being annoying.
