Sometimes, when it seems like I can’t think of anything to be happy about, I turn to 14000 things to be happy about.by Barbara Ann Kipfer. I practically kept it in my purse after I had my miscarriages. It helps to remind you that there ARE things to be happy about, regardless of the situation you may be in. Yes, they may be small, but they are reasons to smile none the less.
Today when I picked up the book, I saw a photo of Chris, Ivy and myself that I had stuck in the front cover when Ivy was about 10 months old. We were all going to a wedding so we are all gussied up and looking good. Tucked into the next page is a small index card that is written in Chris’ handwriting. It reads, “#1. I have the most beautiful wife in the whole world. Why did they write the rest of the book?” One day shortly after we moved into our house together, he came across this book and added in one of his personal things to be happy about! I remember picking up the book and discovering the card. If the book hadn’t have been one of my favorites before, it sure was after finding that!
There is more to this than just the book, though. There is also a website dedicated to things to be happy about. And what else would the web address be but, www.thingstobehappyabout.com! There you can purchase the book and others, learn about the author and get a daily dose of happiness.
This week my son has a cold, his first since coming home from Africa in May. I spent the first Father’s Day without my dad. Chris is having to do overtime. I am getting ready for a yard sale. This week, I’ll need to remind myself of some things that make me happy.
