Hello to all! I am very excited to introduce myself to you and look forward to using this blog to “talk” about all things fertility/infertility. I hope you will consider this a place where you can come to read about fertility issues that are important to you and truly feel like someone (me) knows exactly what you are going through. Think of it as a coffee-break (oops – are we “allowed” to have coffee – we’ll save that for another post!) chat between friends.
My name is Sheila, and I am/was infertile. Sounds kind of like a recovering alcoholic doesn’t it? That may seem a bit dramatic, but I think it is a very comparable sentiment. When you suffer through infertility issues you often feel as though you have a big stamp on your forehead that screams, “I have a problem,” and although you probably don’t go around announcing it to the world you sometimes wish you could just so others might understand. Infertility issues can make your life lonely and overwhelming at times, but the community of people who are dealing with the same exact issues is larger than you may think. Sometimes the best way to deal with it all is to commiserate with others going through the same thing. I have found that to be of great help to me and I hope that you know that through this blog you have found someone who stays abreast of fertility issues and wants you to have access to everything you can to make this roller-coaster as manageable as possible.
Believe me, I understand. I endured many years of infertility and heartbreaking ups and downs to get where I am today – the proud mother of boy/girl twins. My husband and I decided to start a family over 5 years ago and naively thought that it would take a year, tops, to reshape our family from two to three. Boy, were we wrong! And so began our infertility journey that included an ectopic pregnancy, conception through clomid with an eventual miscarriage, surgeries for fibroids, a PCOS diagnosis, and finally a successful IVF cycle. I have “been there done that” in the same way that many of you are or have been and am anxious to be a support person, a source of information, a sounding board, and sometimes a devil’s advocate. I hope you will visit the blog tomorrow when I will talk about the feeling that “everyone is pregnant!” I know I felt that way often and I know that it is difficult – this is the place to groan and moan uncensored, and that’s what I intend to do!
