Homemade Christmas Cards

One of my favorite traditions of this holiday season, or any season for that matter is the receiving, through snail mail, holiday cards. Is there anything better than finding a card or letter admist the bills and promotions? Not too many that I can think of anyway.

I even enjoy the Christmas letters that a lot of people have issues with. The sappy ones I have a laugh at and the honest ones I adore. And I especially enjoy any card with a family or child photo. Those are priceless. I have a client and a friend who still sends out her holiday card with her 3 kids on the front. And two of them are in college. I couldn’t even imagine the planning that goes into that one. But it is their tradition, started with their first Christmas as parents.

That being said, I don’t send cards very often. Especially bulk mailings as such. But I do send cards for special occasions and I bring them with me to parties as well. I know that from my perspective sometimes the card is a lot better than the gift!

For those of you who are undertaking the task and enjoyment of making your own cards this year, I wanted to pass along some sites that are offering free holiday style fonts to be downloaded. I’ve looked through a small sample and have been very impressed.

Speaking of the joys of cards, I just picked up the mail and had 2 Christmas cards in the mix. I love this time of year! Time to get in gear with our holiday photo!

Oh, I am working on my cards this week so am gonna check out those sites. I LOVE doing my holiday cards and send out an ungodly amount! I ALWAYS include a photo of Noah, sometimes a family photo, and sometimes even a picture of my birthchild to certain family members or friends.

I put a lot of time into creating just the right card. Too much actually! LOL For the past 4 years, I have written a recap poem, where I recap the year in rhyme. They are getting cheesier and cheesier as the years go by so I’m canning the recap poem this year. Might do a family letter, if I can keep it real. :)

I second the emotion on those family letters. I love to get them. Even the one that came this week that had 18 gazillion exclamation points…”Our daughter is 10!!! She loves to dance!!! She loves to knit!!” On and on it went through every child and every event. :)
