Marriage Programs

Listed in the February 2007 issue of Child magazine, they listed five different marriage programs for their readers to explore. Setting up the article was this scenario:

Child's Ultimate Guide to Marriage Programs. The arrival of a baby can cause a rift between spouses. Here, some workshops to help get your relationship back on track.

Yes, the arrival of our first baby did put a lot of stress on our marriage. We did seek marriage counseling when she was a few months old, and it helped. But, we both feel that the infertility times were probably the most stressful thing that we encountered as a couple. We ultimately should have started counseling back then. Some of these programs listed would have really have been helpful.

For couples who resolve their fertility issues with bringing home a baby, there is the Bringing Baby Home workshop which is around $150 per couple for their 2 day workshop.

Philosophy
This is the newest program to evolve from the research done in Dr. John Gottman's "Love Lab," where he assessed with near certainty a couple's risk for divorce by observing their communication styles and physiological changes (such as heart rate) during an ordinary conversation.

The two day workshop focuses on how to strengthen friendship, intimacy, and discussion skills in the face of sleep deprivation and stress, and how to fairly and effectively share childcare.

Many of these programs have sites in many states so there should be one near you. To see the complete article, you can search www.child.com
