Peace Out: Drink Tea (Preferably Green) Part II

teaset Peace Out: Drink Tea (Preferably Green) Part II

Here’s my little Korean celadon tea set. You will see it’s very cleverly made, with a bowl like cup (the clay is very thick-walled, so it gets warm in your hand, but not hot, so you don’t need handles–plus it’s nice to cup the bowl in your hands, as is traditional). And then the cup comes with a build in clay filter that fits right in it.

As said previously, I’m trying to drink more green tea for health and fertility reasons, but I also use the filter to drink chysanthemum tea, where the dried flowers “bloom” in the water and the tea itself has a nice, mild taste and no caffeine. You can get it at any Asian grocery. I often also put in a nice piece of astralagus root (Huang Qi), which looks like a tongue depresser and gives the tea a nice sweet taste and has immune booster properties similar to echinacea.

Korea has many coffee houses that are just like Starbucks called ka-peh. The traditional tea houses, however, are harder to find. They are usually hidden in basements of larger retail establishments, and their atmosphere is hushed and subdued compared with the raucous atmosphere of the coffee houses. tae Peace Out: Drink Tea (Preferably Green) Part II (Tip for those going to Seoul, look for the Doksuri Tea House in Shinchon-Dong, it’s one of my favorites, also in the basement). Usually there’s lot of wood, traditional seating, even gourd dippers for the tea some times. Very relaxing!
