Prayer for a Safe Pregnancy
This life you have given us
is so tiny, fragile, and vulnerable,
safe in the womb of flesh and hope,
yet subject to danger and death.
O God of love, creator of life,
hear our prayer.
We want this baby so much.
Please grant this child of ours
a full term of nurture,
the joy and mystery of life,
and the blessing of your love.
Grant us the fulfillment of our dreams,
a baby to cherish and protect,
a child to teach and guide,
a blessing to our family.
Amen.
I have been in a prayerful mood today. And what should pop up on my screen, but this poem as my poem of the day from www.Beliefnet.com? Very appropriate for all of the women who are finding out that their IUI’s took, or any of the other therapies to help achieve a positive pregnancy test, or maybe, just maybe, a little unassisted miracle. Or maybe to pray for a surrogate or a birth mother that hasn’t yet given birth.
I was cautious that first time I got pregnant, but very happy. Unsure the second time, I hadn’t realized the pregnancy had occurred. Terrified the third time, which resulted in Ivy. I prayed a lot during this time of my life. And the above poem would have been helpful to give me some variety besides my normal prayer of “HELP!”
I hope that this prayer and other’s like it are helpful to you today. Or if you know some women who are pregnant, like I do, at this time, it may be helpful to pray for them as well. I absolutely love the line, “a full term of nurture”.

when I read the prayer i can’t helped but cry, because I know that I really need this kind of prayer this time. I’m always having a critical pregnancy. my 1st was just 8mos when i gave birth but gladly she’d made it and shes now 7yrs. my 2nd child was just 7mos then but after 2months in the hospital he didn’t make it…. I can say that I haven’t recovered till now though it has been 4yrs had passed. that’s the painful thing that ever happened to me.. and now Im on my 3rd month of pregnancy. Im hoping that my baby will have a full term. Im very scared and nevous always bec of what happened in the past so I do really hope that this prayer will help me alot.
