Whenever I've been pregnant, I haven't ever dreamed of my pregnancies or the child that I am carrying. It always seems though, that women have many crazy dreams during pregnancy. A midwife that I used to be friends with until she moved away thought that this was due to the lack of quality sleep during a pregnancy and also that hormones could be a factor.
My step mom gave birth to my brother and sister almost 18 years ago. Her recurrent pregnancy dream was that she gave birth to monkeys. They brought the babies in, all diapered and washed, but they were monkeys. She said that in the dream she immediately loved them, but kept saying to the nurses, " I thought that they were going to be human." She was laughing when she told us about that dream and we laughed with her. I also remember feeling like she might be a tad worried too.
Last night I dreamed that I was in labor with a midwife. I was having strong contractions but no pain. I told the midwife, I'm not supposed to be in labor. I'm supposed to have a C-Section. She replied that I would be fine, my uterus wouldn't rupture and that regardless, the baby was on it's way. I delivered the baby and the placenta. They took the baby to the nursery and they went into an office to do charting. I laid back on the bed and then felt labor start again. I walked down the hall and told the midwives that I was still in labor. They didn't believe me. I took my hands and put them on my stomach, felt another baby inside me and then manually turned it around and gave birth to another baby. Everyone was astonished that I had given birth to twins. No one was prepared, but everyone was ecstatic.
I woke up in a sweat with my hands on my stomach. I went to the bookshelf and found my dream dictionary. This is what it said:
Multiple births indicate an increase in material wealth. p.59 The Dreamer's Dictionary by Lady STearn Robinson & Tom Corbett
Let's hope that this is true!
