I remember dates pretty well. Not necessarily years, but that month and day stick in my mind. Although I do remember the year that I graduated high school and the year I met Chris. I'm good at birthdays, except for my best friend Joe's which I can never remember if it is on the 10th or the 12th. But he forgives me on my off years. Thank goodness he really isn't a birthday kind of guy.

Yesterday was my friend Jayme's birthday. I have known her birthday since I could remember dates. And it is a happy day to know that she was born into this world. And it will still be happy after yesterday, but I'll start to remember the date as bitter sweet.

I've admitted to you all before about my non-crying problem. Well, yesterday I was tearing up. My friend, (not the one from posts from last month) called to tell me that her hcg numbers are not good at all for her 5 week pregnancy. Another ultrasound to rule out ectopic pregnancy, and then a scheduled D&C. Her 3rd time doing all of this. And she is wondering how many more times she can try. She cries the news out to me from states away, and my knees soften and my stomach knots.

And then, finding out today that my mom's beloved dog, Oprah, was hit by a car and killed last night. My mom is devastated. Traumatic in any circumstances, but in the situation last night, it was pretty bad. When I heard today I teared up as well, while my partner at work cried, thinking about her newly adopted pug and her elderly shephard.

So much loss yesterday. I'm not comparing a dog to a baby, but losses are losses, and yesterday hit me with a double punch. Some days are just hard, and sad. And from now on, I will remember Jayme's birthday with happiness, tinged with the memories of the lives lost in 2007.
