If you have reached a place where you feel like you are losing your mind with trying to become pregnant, you might want to consider taking a month or two off from trying to conceive. You might find that giving yourself a breather is just what you need to help you have the stamina to continue trying to conceive through various fertility treatments.
I was so goal-oriented when I was trying to conceive a child. All that mattered was that we try and try again until we were successful. I did not want any time off. If anything, I wanted to accelerate my life so I would know immediately if the last try was successful so we could try again. I thought that I could “will” my body to make a baby. Unfortunately, that was not in the cards for me. I have yet to conceive a baby, even after being off birth control for over a decade.
Over the course of several years of trying to conceive a baby, I found that I needed to take time off periodically from focusing on trying to conceive. My goal of becoming pregnant was all-consuming, and it wore me out.
Life needs to be about balance in order for a person to be happy. Whenever you put too much of your focus onto only one area of your life, you do it to the detriment of every other aspect of your life. You feel out of balance because you are not paying attention to other aspects of your life, some of which might be very good. You rob yourself of the joy of celebrating other positive moments in your life, such as a promotion at work or the deepening of a friendship.
By taking a month or two off from trying to conceive, you give yourself the gift of noticing other parts of your life that might have fallen by the wayside. You also give your body and emotions a break from the intensity of trying to conceive for long periods of time. Sometimes a little rest is what you need to be able to dust yourself off and keep on trying.
