The King of Queens Series Finale

The series finale of The King of Queens aired last week. I saved the time and date and made plans to watch the show with my husband which is no easy task with our schedules. While watching the show, I started dreading where it was going. By the end of the show I was disappointed. And upset at what I saw. And with a goal to write about it here. Adoption myths and international adoption myths are alive and well in even the media of mainstream America.

First of all, here are the things that I remember that I was irritated at. Carrie gets a text message of her baby's picture and then flies to Beijing to pick up her daughter, mere weeks after deciding to adopt. She decides that since her and Doug are not together anymore, she will adopt the baby on her own. The couple reconciles and while with their new baby they find out they are pregnant. All the while making cracks at Chinese culture. I actually looked for the transcript of the show, but couldn't find one. I'm sure if I had one, I could come up with more to complain about.

I've heard that the pregnancy rate after adoption is the same as before you adopt. There isn't an international program that I'm aware of that gets you a baby in a few weeks after deciding to adopt. Even typing these makes me mad all over again.

I stewed for about a week and then decided that I would see if there were any others that felt the same way I did about this episode. And the verdict is in. They don't. People liked it although they did agree that the show isn't what it once was. I wonder how the adoption community could say change those ratings? As a regular viewer, I was beyond disappointed.
