This is a post from Bindweed Heights. Had me laughing out loud. With the oh so familiar frustration and anger at the powers that be that regulate fertility, Wavery puts a great creative spin on her energies. Even the title of this post is so true. “Overreacting? Me? Never.”
A quick warning though, if you aren’t into some bad words here and there, this post probably isn’t for you. If you can stomach the honesty, get ready to laugh while reading about her baking experience with Violent Oatmeal Cookies.
As I am in the self important, self loathing, insomniac phase of getting negative after negative while still waiting for my period with a glint of hope which, at this point, is more torture than none, I find myself desperately in need of distraction. Again.
Violent Oatmeal Cookies
Peel lid off of cardboard canister of oatmeal. Glare at cookie recipe printed on the inside with utter contempt. Proceed to use that recipe because seriously, you’re just passing time until your period shows up and you can get blotto drunk.
2 sticks butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups oats
1 cup raisins
She then continues on with all of the steps, adding in a scathing commentary that is hysterical and familiar to me. Although, now that I think back, I never really did any baking or cooking to express my anger. But then again, I don’t use the stove to really express any emotion. Unlike a friend of mine who bakes when she is bored and stressed. (Lucky us!) I cook to feed us, and because I’m hungry. Thankfully, Wavery shared this with us all, so now I can pass it along to those of you who take your frustrations out in the kitchen.
