Yesterday, I received an e-mail from RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association about an upcoming “webinar” on fertility treatment advances. The full title of the webinar is Fertility Treatment Advances: How the Last Decade of Success is Paving the Way for the Future.
I have never heard the term “webinar” before, but I deduced that it meant a seminar that takes place on the web. (Gotta love that college education, eh?) And I was correct. This is a seminar that will take place on the Internet on Tuesday, November 13, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST. You can register for the webinar at Resolve’s Events by Date page.
According to the e-mail I received, many advancements have taken place in the world of fertility over the past ten years, and the future of fertility treatments is looking bright. From your computer in the comfort of your home or office, you will be able to hear from “leaders in the field of fertility” and also from a fertility patient.
Here is the list of speakers for the webinar:
- Dr. Howard Jones, the “Father of in vitro fertilization in the United States,” on the scientific progress of successfully treating fertility problems and a glimpse of what the future holds.
- Dr. Alice Domar, a leading psychologist, on the role that the mind-body connection and stress play in conceiving.
- Dr. Robert Stillman, a renowned reproductive endocrinologist, highlighting the medical advances in fertility over the past decade.
- One patient’s journey – a patient’s perspective on coping with fertility problems and seeking successful treatment options.

If you would like to participate in the webinar, you will need to register. If you are worried about your anonymity, don’t be. The registration page includes the following note:

The registration page tells you to verify that you have a media player on your computer that is compatible with the webinar. I feared that was getting a little high tech for me, but I clicked on the link, and I saw what they are talking about. As long as you have a current version of Flash Player, Windows Media Player, or QuickTime, you should be good to go. The website will check your computer for you to make sure you have the right software installed. That’s a good thing for people like me who know how to “power use” certain software packages but do not know a thing about computer programs.
The information that Resolve requires to register is pretty low key stuff: name, e-mail address, and whether you are a member of the media. I went ahead and registered to see if there was a page two that asked details about your fertility history, and there wound up not being a page two. So, that was about as easy as it gets to register. Unfortunately, I will be sitting in the car line at my kid’s school when the webinar takes place, so I guess I will have to e-mail Resolve my regrets.
Within minutes, I received a confirmation e-mail with a password and other basic information about the webinar. At least now I know who to contact with my regrets.
