Coping With Loss on Mother’s Day submitted by Beliefnet Readers.

sad When Mothers Day Hurts

It’s no secret that Mother’s Day can be the worst for want to be mommies. Although a lot of the hints from the above article were meant for other losses besides infertility, I believe that some can help out in a lot of different situations. The link above will take you to the complete list. Here are some that I felt were appropriate for this blog:

Create an Online Memorial

Jane Cassidy, Cerrillos, N.M.: “Grief seems to have a life of its own.”

Jane’s daughter died in her early 20s. To help survive the loss, Jane created www.happybirthdayrenee.com, which I spent the morning looking through. It is a very moving look at the love that Renee gave and received.

In a miscarriage or infertility setting, creating a memorial or a blog could be helpful and healing.

Buy Yourself a Special Gift

I absolutely love this idea. And of course, I would recommend buying yourself something pampering, like a massage. But a maniucure, pedicure, or facial would also be healing. Make it be something just for you. Something that focuses only on your wants and needs for a change.

Join a Support Group

Emily Afuola, Newark, N.J.: “I have a son in Afghanistan and a nephew in Iraq.”

There are many types of support groups offered from RESOLVE. There are online groups, groups that meet in person, and hotlines. Your local hospital may also be able to put you in touch with others suffering your type of loss, which is where I found my support group after my second miscarriage.

Also friends and family members who have experienced loss as well, can be helpful in these areas. Or, even an acquaintance, may be helpful because of the common ground you share.
